Make your own sandwich time!

Greetings from Room 16!

A warm welcome to two new students who have joined Room 16 recently:

                              Abel Everson                                Liam Birss

Last week we planned to make our own sandwich, based on the shared book we had been reading - Max's Sandwich.  On Friday we put our planning into action!

Here are photo's of the children making their sandwiches:

Isaac's Mum (Michelle) helped butter the bread,
but we did all the rest ourselves.

Welcome back to Room 16!  What a busy Term 1 we have been having!

Welcome to Mia-Leigh Hartfield our newest member of Room 16.

We have special kete bags in our classroom that help us when we are learning about our school values: respect, resilience and responsibility.   School values are rewarded by students placing a 'stick' in their kete.  Each Friday, the student with the most sticks get to choose something out of Mrs Taylor's special sparkly box!

We love learning our alphabet letters and sounds - and have been making little books to help us:

This term our inquiry is about "Identity", specifically "who am I?".  We have finished our self portraits and they are on display in our cloakroom.  We sponged the background, matched our skin colour to the right paint, drew/chose our eye design, and made our hair colour (and hair style) as close as we could to ourselves!  We also published a story that says what we liked about us.

After morning break we have a quiet time reading to ourselves or friends for a little while.  Sometimes we use our class library books, other times we have special book boxes.  It is good to talk about books with our friends.

Play-based fine motor skills activities:

Kendall made a peg house...

so did Tanushi.

Ramon made a peg wall!

Iris is making sushi!

Awesome Lego house, complete with food, heli-pad and fire escape!

Sana and Tanushi have a spontaneous tea party, complete with guests "Huggy Bear" and "Reader Rabbit".

Room 16 love to swim - we have been practicing our floating with boards, and on our own, and also understanding how a life jacket works:

We have also been horsing around having horsey races:

Ready, set, go!

We have also been practicing bubbling under the water:

Paea is doing big motor boat bubbles!

Water play:

Preston and Stanley give their volcano some 'lava' !

Kendall, Sana and Riana were also making 'lava'.

Measuring water with various bottles, cups and squeezes.

The children were wanting to know how to make a dart, and how do darts fly.  We made our own darts, and went outside, talked about the wind direction - watched our hair move about, and found the best spot to launch our darts!

 Ready.... go!

Room 16 always like to link something to our shared book that we have during the week.  We read the tale of Billy the Balloon, and then made our own balloon characters!

 Preston, Kendall, William and Radeesh.

That's all for now!
Thank you so much for visiting!

Ka kete, from Mrs Taylor and Room 16!
